Our History

ALTEK was formed in the 1980's and they invented the dross press for aluminium dross in the early 1990's. In the following years they became a leader in TTRFs, with many international references.

ALTEK Timeline

In 2003 ALTEK and MDY, both with specialist skills and worldwide experience in Tilt Type Rotary Furnaces and aluminium recycling technology, joined together and in 2004 and under new ownership and management became ALTEK-MDY.

In 2007 ALTEK under new management relocated the headquarters to the UK and Altek Europe Ltd was born, focusing on expanding Dross Pressing technology and commercialising the first Air-Cooled Electromagnetic Stirrer technology. Altek LLC was also created at the same time as the US operations base.

In 2009 this group acquired J M McIntyre (Machinery) Ltd., manufacturers of the TARDIS Dross Press and associated dross cooling technology, and began to consolidate and update the two different technologies to form the TARDIS Gen II Dross Press Range. With this acquisition of TARDIS and the inclusion of the worldwide reference base of TARDIS, the company then had more than 400 references across the world and was able to provide technical support to owners of TARDIS Dross Presses offering advanced upgrades, service and spares.

In 2009 Altek also commercialised the first Air-Cooled Electromagnetic Stirrers (EMS) into the aluminium industry. More efficient the traditional water cooled systems, their EMS had greater control flexibility, increased power and importantly no water around the furnace. Altek’s EMS could also be installed on the bottom or side of any furnace size or type with excellent results, standing them apart from the competition.

In 2011 Altek moved offices to a 20,000 square foot facility in Chesterfield, UK.

In 2013 ALTEK acquired Induction heating specialist Inductelec to increase capacity for the manufacture of our electromagnetic stirring product range including bottom mounted, side mounted and curved options.

In 2015 ALTEK launched AluSalt™ salt slag/cake recycling process. AluSalt™ Salt Slag Recycling plays a vital part of a larger cost effective sustainable End-To-End Dross Management Solution that can help give a faster return on investment over a much shorter period of time. Typically as little as two years.

In 2016 ground was broken on a new 20,000 square foot facility to double our production capabilities whilst offering state of the art manufacturing facilities for all of our products across the range. A full site wide refurbishment was also undertaken across the whole UK manufacturing facility providing futureproofing for growth and expansion in the coming years. This saw our UK manufacturing hub increase to 40,000 square feet, which is in addition to our USA based manufacturing operation located in Pennsylvania with 15,000 square feet.

In 2018 Altek Europe Limited was acquired by Harsco Corporation. The cost-efficient recovery of metal and other valuable materials and environmentally-safe solutions for residual waste materials are increasingly important to the aluminium industry. The acquisition was seen as a perfect match offering customers a breakthrough technology that converts salt slag waste into valuable products, addressing one of the largest environmental concerns within the aluminium market.

In 2020 Melting Solutions Ltd was acquired by Altek enhancing the product range to include dross and scrap recycling plants using Tilting Type Rotary Furnace technology and range of aluminium casting technologies. With this addition Altek becomes the first and only global provider of true end-to-end, zero waste dross management solutions.

In 2023 Harsco Corporation became Enviri as a trusted global leader in environmental solutions and innovative products, continually developing and refining creative methods of recycling and beneficial reuse for our customers. Enviri operates across North America, South America, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in more than 150 locations in over 30 countries. ALTEK operates in over 100 countries across the globe with over 900 reference plants as customer locations.

In 2024 Altek acquire an exclusive, global license (outside of Canada) for the RAME™ Dross Processing Technology.
